Το νησί της Ρόδου είναι ένας από τους πιο δημοφιλείς τουριστικούς προορισμούς στην Ευρώπη και έχει πολλά παρατσούκλια, όπως «Νησί του Ήλιου», «Νησί των Μαργαριταριών» και «Νησί των Ιπποτών», που πήρε το όνομά του από τους Ιππότες του Αγίου Ιωάννη της Ιερουσαλήμ. , που κυβέρνησε το νησί από το 1310 έως το 1522.

Η Ρόδος ήταν επίσης διάσημη για τον Κολοσσό της Ρόδου, ένα από τα Επτά Θαύματα του Αρχαίου Κόσμου. Η Μεσαιωνική Παλιά Πόλη της Ρόδου έχει επίσης ανακηρυχθεί Μνημείο Παγκόσμιας Κληρονομιάς από την UNESCO .

 

1. Invitation The European Chess Union (ECU) invites all National Chess Federations of ECU to participate in the European Youth Team Chess Championships 2024 organised from 20 June (arrivals) to 28 June (departures). The event will be held in the Conference Hall of the 5-star Rodos Palace Hotel on the island of Rhodes. 2. Participation 2.1 The European Youth Team Chess Championships (EYTCC) will include four (4) separate competitions, an open competition and a girl’s competition in both categories U12 and U18. The playing members of the teams shall not have reached the age of 12 or 18, depending on category, by 1st January 2024:  Players U12 should have a birth date of 1st January 2012 and after.  Players U18 should have a birth date of 1st January 2006 and after. Page 1 of 5 2.2 Each national federation member of the European Chess Union (ECU) has the right to enter up to four (4) teams of four (4) players and one (1) reserve in the open competitions and up to four (4) teams of two (2) female players and one (1) reserve in the girl competitions.

These teams may represent the national federation, a region, a city, a club, or a school. 3. ECU entry fee 3.1 In accordance with ECU regulations, an entry fee of 100 euros for each team is required. 3.2 Participating federations must pay the entry fee to the bank account of ECU, before the start of the competition. If the entry fee does not reach the ECU bank account by the end of the round 2, these teams will not be paired in the next rounds. 4. Registration deadline and travel details 4.1 Entry forms must be filled and sent to the Tournament office no later than 22 April 2024. If the registration form is not completed by the federation itself, a copy must be sent to the national federation. 4.2 A complete registration form must include surname/s, first name/s, FIDE ID number, FIDE rating and title, and passport number or identity card number of each player, captain, and each accompanying person. It also must include the name and telephone, e-mail of the chief of delegation who must be an adult.

4.3 Participants should book their flights to Rhodes International Airport (RHO) which is located 11 km from the venue. The bus transportation from and to Rhodes International Airport is included in the organisation package for all participants on the arrival day (20 June) and the departure day (28 June). Transportation from the organizers on other dates are possible upon request with an extra charge.

5. Registration – Accommodation package (8 nights)

5.1 The official hotel of the event is the 5-star RODOS PALACE (*****). Registration – Accommodation package includes (per person):  Accommodation for 8 nights.  Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner daily.  Soft Drinks/Beer/Wine/Water during meals in restaurant (semi/all Inclusive),  Transportation from and to Rhodes airport on 20th and 28th of June.  Registration fees.  All taxes (including VAT and Municipality Tax). Price per person in quadraple room Price per person in triple room Price per person in double room (4 persons occupancy) 510 euros per person (3 persons occupancy) 560 euros per person (2 persons occupancy) 630 euros per person Page 2 of 5 * Each team shall share an equal or balanced number of all room types and each request is subject to confirmation by the Organising Committee, depending on availability. The Organising Committee will inform each delegation about the exact distribution available. 5.2 The registration fee is 100 euros for each player and accredited/accompanying person. It is already included in the participation package of article 5.1 above.

5.3 By the registration deadline of 22 April 2024, a deposit payment of 200 euros per person must be sent, to confirm participation, to the bank account of the organising agency “AT Holidays” for each player and accompanying person (bank charges to be covered by the sender). The remaining amount must be settled before arrival. 5.4 Once the bank transfer is validated, the Organising Committee will confirm the assigned booking confirmation for all the rooms.

5.5 Extra nights can be requested in advance and, upon availability, can be possible at a proportional cost. 5.6 According to ECU Tournament Rules (article B.14.5.1), for youth tournaments the participants are accommodated by the Organizer in the official hotel. In case of larger participation than expected, the Organizer may provide extra official hotel(s) of similar quality. Access to playing areas and venues will be allowed only to persons accredited by the Organizer. 6. Playing Hall The playing hall is the Conference Canter of the 5-star Rodos Palace hotel in Rhodes. 7. 8. System and rate of game 8.1 The European Youth Team Championship shall be held according to Swiss system in 7 rounds, with two open sections and two sections for the girls’ teams, considered as separate competitions. According to ECU and FIDE rules, the time control will be 90 min for the whole game + 30 sec increment for every move played starting from move 1. If there are eight teams or less in a competition, the competition will be played as a Round Robin tournament. In such case, the drawing of lots will take place at the Captain’s Meeting. Page 3 of 5 8.2 Players may only agree to a draw after black’s 30th move. Players violating this rule will be forfeited. If a player is offered a draw before the 30th move has been made by black, he should call an arbiter. His opponent shall be penalized for distracting, according to the FIDE Laws of Chess. 8.3 Default time for all rounds is 15 minutes.

9. Anti-Cheating guidelines The European Anti Cheating Rules (ECU Tournament Rules, Part Q) and the FIDE Anti-Cheating guidelines (FIDE Handbook, A.10) are valid. Upon arrival or any time during the event, captains or players may be requested to present passports for verification of a player’s age eligibility. Random searches, with a hand-held metal detector, can be performed by the arbiter(s) to players, before or during the games.

10. Tie-break system 10.1 10.2 A. B. C. D. The ranking will be made according to match points. The team obtaining the highest number of match points being declared the winner of the competition. The order of teams that finish with the same number of match points shall be determined by application of the following tie-breaking procedures in sequence, proceeding from A to B to C to D to the extent required: by the sum of Sonneborn-Berger points, which is calculated as follows: match points of each opponent, excluding the opponent who scored the lowest number of match points, multiplied by the number of board points scored against each opponent respectively. The highest number wins. In case of two or more opponents with this same number of match points the lowest results of multiplication should be excluded; by the number of board points won, the highest number wins by the sum of the board points of all team’s opponents, the highest number wins by the sum of the board points of all opponents defeated plus one half of the board points of all the opponents with which a tied result was achieved, the highest number wins. The result of the unplayed match is: 2 match points and 4 game points in case of an unplayed win, 1 match point and 2 game points in case of a bye, 0 match points and 0 game points in case of an unplayed loss.

11. Appeals procedure Appeals Procedure Protests against decisions of the Chief Arbiter must be submitted in written form to the Chairman of the appeals committee within one hour after the completion of the respective game. The protest must be accompanied with the sum of 200 euros, as a deposit from the signatory. If the appeal is granted, the sum shall be returned immediately. If the appeal is refused, the deposit is forfeited to the European Chess Union. The appeal has to be lodged by the player or the captain of the team. The decisions of the Appeals Committee are final.

12. Titles & Prizes 12.1 12.2 The winning team of the open competition receives the title “European Youth Champion Team 2024” in its respective category.

The winning team of the girls competition receives the title “European Youth Champion Team for Girls 2024” in its respective category. Page 4 of 5 12.3 The winning team of the combined age category of the competition (sum of the match points from both tournaments open & girls, then, if equal, sum of the game points) receives the title “Absolute European Youth Champion Team 2024” in its respective age category. 12.4 12.5 12.6 The first three (3) teams in each competition will receive trophies.

Each member of the winning team (players, reserve, and captain) will receive a gold medal. The members of the 2nd and 3rd placed teams will each receive a silver and bronze medal respectively. The Winners (1st place) of the combined categories U18 & U12 will receive trophies and players’ medals. ECU Certificates for all participants will be awarded.

13. Visa information 13.1 13.2 Any federation members, players and accompanying persons who need a visa to enter Greece, are requested to contact the Organizer before the registration deadline of 22 April 2024. The organizer will provide invitations for visas only after the necessary payments are wired, as described in articles 5.1 and 5.2 above. Schengen visas are valid in Greece.
